Dairy farms filled the valley in the 50s and 60s but today this is the last one in the district. The farmer milks 220 - 250 cows and these are a few of his replacement heifers that came to greet me over the fence when I stopped for a photo. Thanks to all who drop by my project. Your visits are much appreciated.
A herd of cows is such a relaxing sight, and these curious youngsters give humor to your photo. Do you know what the birds in the background are? Here Cattle Egrets flock to the churned up ground around cattle to pick bugs from the ground. I wonder if those birds do the same thing.
@mbemis these birds are black and white ibis. We have cattle egrets but they follow the cattle more specifically than ibis. Ibis just move in flocks churning up their own supply of bugs.
@cejaanderson these are all housed in pens and fed milk before being let out into this pen to graze and feed on hay in feeders which were just to my left. So humans mean food to these girls and you always attract a crowd if you stop.
Thank you for you visits and you so nice comments. I`m very pleased with both of them.
Great shot of you farm and cows. We have less dairy farms here in the neigbourhood as the soil is clay. Other parts of Holland do.
I think I miss the farm.
