...and this is the owner of the big eye hidden within the blankets yesterday. A little 4 month old joey. She is still very frail and pink with her fur just beginning to cover her body. Joeys are the size of a jelly bean when they are born and only have tiny forearms to help them find their way from the birthing canal up through mother's fur and into the pouch where they continue developing for another eight months. Little orphaned joeys as young as this one need very special care and are kept in hand made pouches with tiny soft baby blankets, regularly feed and toileted. This little girl would not be seen for another five months if she was still in her mother's pouch so she needs the same tender care as a premature baby. Her survival is still very precarious.
