Another image from the Aoyagi home in Kakunodate. Here is the wooden wheel holding a rope for a bucket to go down into a well in the front garden of this samurai estate. I was drawn to the repetition of circle and line and to the grain of the wood and braid of the rope. The kanji on the placard in the upper left of the image sets the location in Japan and reads "black gate," which I thought really captured the mood of the shot.
