out on a leaf

Out gardening on the beautiful Sunday, when after a snip of an offending vine, a relatively large insect flew off and landed near the butterfly bush. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't see it. Giving up, I continued weeding and when I came to snip the wisteria, it happened again. This time I trained my eyes across the garden and found this beautiful insect. Grabbed my camera, certain it's take off never to be seen again, but it waited patiently. It let me shoot form all angles, so I decided for this shot to incorporate the natural bokeh for the CSC challenge this week. It's also an angle I wouldn't naturally go to.

After doing a bit of research, it is a Tettigoniidae, or katydid, which now makes a lot of sense and may be the baby one that I featured in a day lily several weeks ago. Cool.
