We had a spectacular day walking around the small town of Kinosaki near the Japan Sea north of Kyoto. Outside of town is a crane sanctuary of sorts where we witnessed these majestic birds. There was a nest with two chicks and several other cranes flying about. I had one of those "right place, right time" moments to capture the taking off of this crane as he flew up to the nest. Pretty amazing!
