Meteores, Kalambaka, Greece

sorry for the huge amount of shots today.I will be away from the computer for two days and I had a couple of questions about the monasteries and wanted to post a couple more and thought they should be posted as a group. These two shots are of some ancient ruins of monasteries and where the monks would hide from invaders. For more info on this place:

Aren't they the most amazing structures? And to think they hauled most of that building material up there without the use of any mechanical devices! We didn't see these when we were visiting there.

Amazing! and very fascinating. I saw some monasteries hanging on the rocks in Abruzzo but nothing like this.

Wow! What an incredible housing complex. Tell you one thing though - I don't envy the milkman or the postman on their daily deliveries there! Seriously though, it's a great picture!

These remind me of the Anasazi ruins in Mesa Verdi -- the national park in the southwest U.S. of the tribe that mysteriously disappeared, leaving their cliff dwellings behind.

@skipt07 there are some remaining ladders there..they climbed up then took the ladders up too as protection
