...was the King of Domnonnée (the ancient name for the northern part of Brittany) and a companion of St. Méen who founded an abbey at Gaël. In 645AD, Judicaël was walking by the lake at Paimpont some 10 kms distant when he received a vision of the Virgin Mary who asked him to found an Abbey by the lake.
This statue stands on the spot where St. Judicaël is said to have received his vision and he is holding a replica of the Abbey he founded in his right hand. (There are a number of photos in my project showing the Abbey as it is today.)
In this photo I have tried to show Judicaël in a saintly, other-worldly way in keeping with the mystery of the story of the founding of the Abbey. In reality, the statue is a very dark, verdigris stained bronze colour and the tree is covered with bright green moss.
@vignouse What do you have against the word interesting. I admit that I use it when I don't hate and don't love the picture but find something "thought provoking" about it. I actually spend more time on "interesting" pictures because I fence sit. Pictures I don't like I pass by. But in this case it's the history I said was interesting. I do truly love learning bits of new things. I didn't comment on the picture because it gave me the feel of Camelot and that didn't feel right to say because it's religious. Now I've had my Friday night snit I'll go find a lousy picture to post because I only took lousy ones today. LOL
@joansmor Oh, light the blue touch paper and stand clear! I forgot I was teasing an expert Joan. And you're right - it does look kinda Camelot inspired. I've added a word of explanation above about the processing, in reality, the statue and the tree behind it look nothing at all like this - it was an exercise in processing that I quite like the result of. And finally, your photos are never 'lousy' because you put so much of yourself into each one and, like with me too, you learn a bit more about this craft with every one you take. It's 1.45am and I.m off to bed - Goodnight Joan.
I love a history lesson, especially if it has a picture to go with it. Thanks for this one. Your editing really did make the subject of discussion stand out nicely. Of additional interest was the discussion about the word 'interest'. My apologies for eavesdropping.
Thank you for your shared comments on the Ugly Truth about my sluggish spring. Hints of green are appearing here and there so perhaps the photos will get, uh, more interesting in the near future.
I enjoy 365 for the photos but also for travels around the globe with other people's projects. This is one of those photos. Like you I enjoy learning more about processing - I see it as much as an art as the taking of the photo.
Fav. I love this capture of the statue and the information about him. However, he looks like all the knights of my imagination when I was reading Mallory's Morte D'Arthur. Katharine
I think you've succeeded wonderfully in establishing a saintly, other-worldly atmosphere. It's a great statue and the background complements it beautifully.
