My Get Pushed partner for week 97 Shannon @sjoblues issued me this challenge: "For you, since you shoot a lot of outdoor scenes, my challenge is that you set up and shoot a classic "Old Masters" still life. Have fun!"
@sjoblues Hi Shannon - here's a first (and perhaps only!) attempt for the challenge you gave me this week. Had some fun doing this, so thank you for shifting me out of my comfort zone.
Well done. Very smooth feel, like paint on a canvas. Bet you had fun choosing those onions! Just as a matter of interest, if you look at the old still life paintings you'll find the light comes from the left (mostly). I believe it's because that's how we look at things or read: from left to right. (Haven't looked at Japanese still life though....) !
@lleo Not quite, Gwenllian: I used a studio flash fitted with a softbox. I took some test shots using just the modelling light to simulate window light and I was very happy with the soft, even, almost shadowless fall off, which was what I was looking for.
@vignouse I would have thought it was a window, so clever. It takes quite a lot of time and know-how to set up something like this. I would like to have a go.
Fantastic photo for your get-pushed challenge. I'm always impressed by the time and effort you put into your photography. wonderful processing - looks perfect for an old master still life.
