The mill race... by vignouse

The mill race...

...is over! This is a relic of Paimpont's industrial past and is located in the heart of the small village known as Les Forges. For nearly 400 years, the mill pond fed this steeply sloping mill race where water wheels provided power for the stamps and other forge machinery at the ironworks.

The mill race continued to run white with churning water long after all industrial activity in the area ceased and did so until 3 years ago when the owner of the site diverted the inflow and allowed the mill-pond to dry up. I miss the chatter of the water on my frequent visits.

You can see a slightly different version of this scene, in B&W, in my Doubletakes album for today - http://365project.org/vignouse/doubletakes/2014-06-23
Sad to have the rapids go away. Super detail on this

Echo the above remarks. Very sad, but still a good photo.

Power comes from elsewhere now but just might go back to water - we have numerous little hydro power schemes!
