These are the remains of Old Wardour Castle which can be found near Tisbury in Wiltshire. Construction of the original castle begain in 1392 and it was partially destroyed during the English Civil War. It is managed by English Heritage who have designated it as a grade I listed building.
Lovely capture! Love the ruins, and that sky. I love how the building seems to sit there and dominate whatever is around it. Now what does Grade 1 listed building mean exactly!
This is great Richard, i love the processing and that fabulous sky. Wiltshire's not a county I know well. It looks worth exploring! Your wisdom came through with my Are you being watched doing well! Thanks for all your help.
Thought you might be scouting out some property in England. Does this designation protect it from being torn down and does it provide any assistance in keeping it whole? Curious because historical designation in Maine are sometimes the bane of builders existence. When you own a building and can't make the changes you want in the way you want.
On the picture side this is so excellent. Lovely sky and light and shadows.
@joansmor English Heritage does play a protection role but it also provides advice and practical help to ensure that the buildings, places and, sometimes, just events that played an important part in England's history, are protected and maintained. A Google search will give you more information than you can shake a stick at, should you be interested to know more.
Wonderful shot of this lovely ruin. I did read about it, as you suggested - very interesting. The b&w really brings out the textures and lines of this building. I should love to get inside... maybe one day.
Whilst this has the air of having been superimposed on the sylvan backdrop, being able to espy the woodland through the balcony and disappeared rear walls adds magic and mystery. Perfect for All Hallows' Eve. F!
Wonderful photo - I love the b&w and the tonal range. That the ruin casts such a great shadow makes it so dramatic. We're get-pushed partners this week. I know you can meet any challenge you're set so I challenge you to show me something that has made you particularly happy on your trip to the UK.
