This is something of an experiment. I stumbled upon this little glade today when I was trying to get to the rear of a ruined water mill which has been completely overgrown and is no longer readily accessible. (That's a story for another day when I can go back with a really wide-angle lens!)
There is nothing special about this - in fact it is a rather scruffy and unkempt little glade but something about it kept me looking. And then I realised that it was the riot of textures thrown into relief by the sunlight filtering down from above that had captured my attention.
So here's that little glade in B&W to hopefully show the textures as I saw them.
This looks somewhat startling viewed on black... but it might make your eyes go funny!
Learning about forests from you and HB's black and whites. I've been so mystified about how to photograph when there is so much almost undifferentiated material. But I know that I look and look and am pleased by the sights. Then the pictures are awful. I'm thinking that textures is definitely one of the keys in the forest.
This photo draws me in. I don't know if it's the lighting, the b&w, or the textures. Perhaps its the glade itself with its sloping sides that seem to say 'come here, to this spot'. The surrounding trees and vines and inclines frame the empty reprieve nicely.
