Still staying with alternative lighting choices, this is Mitzi back lit by window light on a dull afternoon. She was playing 'cache-cache' (French for hide-and-seek) by burrowing under her blanket on the sofa. The blanket was lit from behind but Mitzi's face was in shadow - a classic case for either fill-flash or a reflector to throw some light back on to her face.
In fact, I used neither, opting to see if I could achieve a similar result in post-processing, even though I needed to use a high ISO to have any detail in her face at all. Here's the final image - a sort of hybrid high-key/low-key shot which I'm not displeased with.
Awwwww she is so cute! Sort of looks like our Jack. What breed is she @vignouse ? You did a great job in post production considering you used no fill or reflector.
We don't have kids to pose like @kt8ird. So we have to use our pets. You have a sweet doggie so it works very well. Fun to play with processing to see if you can get the results you want. Well done.
Thank you, @vignouse ! I had never heard of this breed so I went to animal planet.com and watched their video about them. Delightful breed! I am sure she provides you with much entertainment and pleasure.
Very sweet shot! I spent many hours playing 'cache-cache' with the kids when I was a nanny in Paris! They were so good at it I honestly thought I'd lost one of them once :S - Lucy
Wow, this is excellent! Congrats in the PP. Very clever use of a high ISO. I am glad you explained it, gives a technique to file away for later. 1600 and no noise. Wow isn't that amazing! Mitzi is super cute and you did a great job getting her photo.
One would never know Mitzi's face was originally in shadow. Your PS prowess has brought out the detail. Impressive. Such a cute pooch. (Thanks for the suggest to have a peek at this on black.)
Very strong black and white.
