Pont de Morbihan by vignouse

Pont de Morbihan

This is the bridge that carries the Lorient-Nantes express-way over the River Vilaine at La Roche Bernard. The arch has a span of 201 metres, the vehicle deck is somewhat longer. The arch is also a pedestrian bridge with two walkways on the outer sides of the vertical pillars - 140 steps up to the centre of the arch and 140 steps down to the other side... I counted!

This is a rather dramatic construction so I thought it deserved a dramatic treatment.
Cool shot! Love the lines

You are in a familiar place but seem to have found a new subject. This is fascinating. I think the processing works.
April 15th, 2015
Wonderfully pic I thought first it was an aquaduct ..this sort of 60's design has weathered well...
April 15th, 2015
Wonderful structure and capture. It is very unusual. Love it!
April 16th, 2015
@jack4john Thanks John - construction actually started in November 1993 and was completed in July 1995.
April 16th, 2015
@joansmor I photographed this last year but I didn't like any of my shots enough to post, so I thought I'd have another try this time!

April 16th, 2015
Very nice lines!
April 16th, 2015
What a neat bridge and how cool that the arch is able to be used for pedestrians.
April 16th, 2015
really unusual bridge, and a great shot of it.
April 16th, 2015
awesome pov ans compo
April 16th, 2015
@dide I think "able to be used by pedestrians" is the right phrase Dianne as I'm sure the walkways are primarily for inspection purposes. It's a pretty steep scramble both sides of the river to get down to the foot of the bridge - they could easily fit gates, but they haven't, so they obviously tolerate ramblers.
April 16th, 2015
Fabulous lines and pov!
April 16th, 2015

April 16th, 2015

April 16th, 2015
Amazing shapes and pov.
April 16th, 2015
Although I find the sinuosity/sinuousness beguiling, I prefer to look at this rather than 'walk the line'. Splendid treatment
April 16th, 2015
Great POV Richard! Nice shot.
April 16th, 2015
That is a very graceful bridge I must say........a beautiful design.
April 16th, 2015
@princessm Hi Decima - thanks for your comment and Fav. No, not a new camera, I've had it almost three years now and many of my images here have been shot with this camera, including every photo in the first month of my project.
April 16th, 2015
I agree with everyone who's said great perspective. Lighting and processing great too.
April 16th, 2015
Amazing pov! Excellent shot!
April 16th, 2015
It's interesting that it's so hard to get a sense of the size. Not good with the numbers, but I'm thinking that it is huge!
April 17th, 2015
@francoise The river is over 600 feet wide at this point Françoise and the bridge is obviously longer than that... but yes, the extreme w/a lens (10mm = 15mm F/F equivalent) distorts the perspective so much that it is difficult to judge. I was looking for drama over representative accuracy when I took this.
April 17th, 2015
Great POV!
