Mitzi found this little chap when she was out for her last dog-walk before bedtime. We have some as big as my hand but they're not very photogenic just sitting in the lane - this young one was hiding under a clump of wild daisies at the edge of the terrace. Taken in almost pitch darkness using a Led ringlight which Mr Toad wasn't very comfortable with!
Large guy! We have some here that if our dog decides to try frog legs as a delicacy, the frog excretes a compound that makes the dog foam excessively at the mouth.
Not being closely acquainted with toads, I'm fascinated by his 'hands' turning inwards to support his weight. They remind me of the stabiliser 'legs' with square plates at their bases seen on large machines at roadworks etc.
Bonus points for Mitzi's spotting skills.
