L’ Église Saint-Benoît d’ Aizenay - exterior view

So many of you admired the beautiful and stunning interior of this church yesterday, that I thought you might like to see it from the outside. As you can see, it dominates the town centre and dwarfs all the surrounding buildings which are so close that I couldn't get a shot of just the church on its own. What might also surprise you - it did me - is that this is a modern building: construction started in 1903 and was completed in 1905.
I love the soft light in this, Richard. And it's a wonderful composition.

That's how it is in the villages along the St. Lawrence on the way to the Gaspe.

An impressive exterior and a stunning sky!

This is beautiful, especially with that lovely sky behind. I did have a chuckle at your description. Any buildings built in Australia in 1905 are seriously old!

I guess they could build quite a bit more quickly in the 20th century than in the medieval times. The clock really stood out, as though someone had dropped a lozenge down.

It just dominates but in an unobtrusive way

It certainly dominates Richard. A great expression of the faith of the community who built it, the architect , and the builders.

It was clearly built to impress and to dominate.

For me, it signifies a force and presence beyond my understanding, an all embracing love and protection, thrillingly forever.
