Cancale Bay at Low Tide by vignouse

Cancale Bay at Low Tide

I had a run out to the coast today on the new motorbike and enjoyed a couple of hours snapping at Cancale on the north coast of Brittany adjacent to St. Malo. You might think from this view that it is rather a quiet place... but nothing could be further than the truth. Had I turned round and shot the other way, you would have seen that the entire seafront (about 1.5 kilometres long) is lined with fish and sea-food restaurants offering a wide range of delights... most especially the oysters for which Cancale is justly famous. I prefer to eat shellfish when there is an 'R' in the month. so today I feasted visually only - there were plenty of takers however.

This is one of those photographs that works (IMHO) equally well in both colour and B&W: a choice was required and, unusually for me, I went with colour today.

It does stand out nicely viewed on black though...
What a huge beach! The tide goes out for miles! A lovely light photo!

This is striking! Doesn't this hurt the boats?

Super shot, they look like toy boats!

This is a nice capture

@taffy Your guess is as good as mine Taffy, but as it happens twice every day... I presume not!

Very interesting shot.

Subject is amazing. All these beached boats are such a strange sight. Nicely captured!

Super shot, and the colorful boats definitely pop more when viewed on black. As for the seafood that sounds wonderful any month of the year to me, but that is because I live in the midwest of the US and just about all of the seafood has to be flown in.

interesting. What I might think, not having grown up anywhere boats are moored on tidal beaches is that there was a storm and now all these boats have been left high and dry!

Amazing to see what happens at low tide!

You went color, I went bw. Great shot with the tide way out. Reminds me of the Bay of Fundy in Canada.

Really like this, excellent processing as well

I think you chose wisely. The pops of color are delightful but not overwhelming. Great capture.

I like the choice of color for this shot. The boats look like little toys, laying on their sides as they are. Amazing, what expanse the tides move each day!

They all look so forlorn. Great expanse.

Great tones made even more lovely by the contrasting boat colors
July 23rd, 2015
Wow, that is a seriously low tide. I'm surprised so many people let their boats lie like this.
July 23rd, 2015
They almost look like toys- very interesting shot :)

very cool, Richard!!! fav

Simple and nice.

The tide always amazes me. I like how this shows the boats stranded and the lines in the sand tell the story of the water's departure.
July 23rd, 2015
Great pops of color. A very unusual sight to me living in a landlocked place.
July 23rd, 2015
Fantabulous!
July 23rd, 2015
Thought of toys too... awesome shot!!

Apocalypse!

This wonderful image has a touch of post-apocalypse to it. The boats look abandoned and my imagination runs wild as to what happened to the people. Brilliant, a fav and I would love to see it in b&w also.

You have really captured this scene well
July 23rd, 2015
epic landscape...
July 23rd, 2015
The beach and sky seem to go on for ever Richard. I love this. Beaches are favourite places for me, especially when there are not too many people about! The scattering of little crafts are great too.
July 23rd, 2015
Love how all the boats look like toy boats

Wow I don't know if you should call this low tide or no tide. This is unbelievable!
