Going, Going...Gone!

I've pictured the antics of the the Blue-tits before as certain of them climb down to the bottom of the feeder to grab whole nuts. Today I spent some time trying to catch one in mid-flight with it's booty, but at the fastest shutter-speed I could manage on a dull winter afternoon - it proved impossible: this was my best attempt

So wonderfully bizarre as am so used to swing bluetits in flight or static on the feeder. Static in flight is a/the new genre ;-). The other thing which struck me forcibly is the size of the nut relative to the bird's head. It's massive. Whilst they peck on the feeder, you can easily see the nut diminishing, so I'm left with a question. How do they eat a whole nut? Hold in a claw raised to the mouth?
