The Ophthalmologist's Waiting Room -1

What do you do in the waiting room when the Ophthalmologist is running over an hour late? Take photographs of your fellow sufferers of course! (There were actually four nuns waiting but the other one was sitting next to me.)

This was shot without looking... and it looks better on black!
Fantastic sharp image and great candid!

my aunt was a Catholic nun - she would have been around 90 if still alive now.... they ditched the mandatory years ago though, but i have strong childhood memories of the heavy constrictive habit and headgear

This looks like the set up for some kind of joke...

How many FAVs can I give this one? The antithesis of my social commentary and the iPhone. Wonderful photo.

Wonderful framing, fun to read your narrative.

Great candid shot...In my area, habits have not been worn by nuns since the 60's.

You must be in the right place if there are nuns there too. Hope all is well.

@seattlite @brigette
The Sacred Heart of Mary order who taught me Changed their rule in the 60s which included not been obliged to wear habits. Some of our older nuns,dot the habit habit, whilst the Reverend Mother (in her 30s) embraced secular apparel with gusto. The oddest thing about it all was seeing nuns' hair!

Oops! Almost forgot to say, I think thu shot is brilliant!

is this the very epitome of waiting patiently? is the nun on the right asleep in fact? i like the light on the nun on the left's glasses
August 12th, 2017
@seattlite It depends on the order Gloria, the vast majority in France wear secular clothes but there are still a few orders that require habits. It's the same with priests who, for the most part, wear no distinguishing clothes but the more traditional sects still wear soutanes... especially young priests.

@pistache Thanks Clare: I think she's actually quietly praying and the light on the left nun's glasses is the reflection of the waiting room television which is mounted high up in a corner of the room.

peace be with you. :)

This is a cracker shot. I like how they are all looking in different directions.

Great capture. Was it a sneaky one?
😁

@carolmw Thank you Carol - as I mentioned in the description, this was taken without looking. More precisely, the camera was on my lap and I pointed it in what I hoped was the right direction and pressed the shutter button. I had the shutter set to electronic so there was no noise whatsoever. A sneaky peak at the rear-screen confirmed whether I had got the shot I was hoping for - a surprising number turned out OK but this was the one I liked the best.

@vignouse. Well done!!! 😀

Creative way to take a surrepticious shot! One at least looks as if she's bored with her bible

B&W was an evidence.

Great composition for not looking... love the black and white. All that reading has got to be hard on the eyes, lol.

I love the way each is looking in a different direction; makes the scene very dynamic as you follow their gazes.
