Navery

Mrs S and I (and more her than me!) are on opening and closing duties for Paimpont Abbey this week. I went to close tonight just as the light was fading and the interior of the church was rather dark.

This image was taken from the front of the chancel looking down the nave to the main entrance. It was actually darker than it appears in this image hence the 'blown-out' alcove which houses the 15C statue of Notre Dame to Paimpont and which was the only lit part of the building.

BoB... inevitably!
love how the details of the panels are picked out by the light. wonderfully composed also :)

This is fabulous. How lucky are you to enjoy this on a regular basis. The lighting really sets the mood here and I love how you get a real sense of the depth to this church. Such a grand old building.

I have to say, it’s not inviting in this light! Great capture of the moody scene though

I always like how it feels we are laying on the floor looking along

I knew this was yours! Super!

Great pov and light. Very moody capture.

@jgpittenger Hi Jane - the moody, 'uninviting' treatment was deliberate as I believe an empty church is just a building but a church with a congregation is alive and welcoming.

VML the perspective here. As you are well aware, l always take the shot with the Main Door behind me so that the altar and baldaquin are what draw the eye. À chacun son truc ;-)

Inevitably on black. Great perspective.

@fishers Thank you Katharine - as I'm the sacristan of Paimpont Abbey, I get to visit it a little too often 🥺. The panelling dates from around 1670.
