Farming country... by vignouse

Farming country...

Our house is in the middle of farm-fields and this year our view has been even more restricted than normal as the maize plants have reached a height of over 3 metres. The maize was harvested this morning - this photo of the combine harvester just beyond our back hedge was taken from our kitchen... just to show you how close we are to rural life.

This is for the NF-SOOC-September challenge which you can read all about here - https://365project.org/discuss/themes-competitions/43961/nf-sooc-september-2020

Have fun with this challenge everyone...

Is that corn being shot out of the combine or is that the plant after the corn is separated from it?

Great shot

The time of the year for harvests. This is serious farming.

I do miss cornfields. We had giant corn when we lived in Illinois. It made a great barrier between our yard and the interstate a quarter of a mile away. Fabulous capture.

I do miss the cornfields of the mid-west, but not working in them. It was hot hard work in an Illinois summer!

How loud are these combines?
September 29th, 2020
@k9photo Hi Kate, it's both - this is a variety of corn specially for animal feed. The whole plant including the cobs is chipped and turned into sileage for winter feeding dairy cows.

@lilh About as noisy as a large lorry at speed or a bit noisier than the tractor-trailers which follow the combine to collect the chipped plants.

Shame about the noise but at least you'll get your view back!

Great capture
