Ants! by vignouse

Ants!

Spotted on the afternoon dog-walk - these ants were busy building a nest at the base of a telephone pole. They were a constantly seething mass; we have the same type nesting in our garden but ours haven't really come out of hibernation yet other than some basic nest maintenance workers.
Oh my! I hope those aren't fire ants.

Oh dear, my worst nightmare. Every spring ants try to come in from patio into my kitchen and I have to take measures to keep them out.
I freak out if I see 5 or 6, this swarming mass terrifies me.

As 'our ants' come out of hibernation, we've been fascinated by their team/group behaviour. They're well organised, work mainly en masse, whilst there are also some ants deputed to carry out tasks individually or in small groups. We know nothing in comparison...
