A Year of Days - Day 298: Guillotine Lock, Salterhebble

This is the guillotine lock at Stainland Road Bridge, Salterhebble. It is one of only a handful of such locks on the whole of the UK canal network. Instead of having swinging gates, the lock is controlled by a vertical guillotine type blade. In this picture, Ally is operating the controls for the guillotine and Dave is powering the narrow boat out of the lock.
This is a new one for me, never knew about these. I suppose it makes you a bit more careful, you would not want two slightly damp halves of your boat.

Looks a bit unnerving to go under this!

Great POV...although I guess your options were severely limited.

What an effective pov!

Is guillotine electrically operated? Ally's obviously got the paddle windlass in her hand so that's operated the same.
