A Year of Days - Day 302: Portsmouth Naval Station
Over the years we've passed through Portsmouth Harbour well over 200 times so it is easy to remember it as one of the ports where cross-channel ferries depart from. It is easy to forget that it is also the main home of the Royal Navy but, happily, I was reminded of this today when I stood on the top deck of the ferry 'Armorique' whiling away the time until departure for France. This image shows the naval side of the harbour and a few of the naval vessels currently in port.
At ease? Perhaps, perhaps not. Beyond maintenance and security, I wonder what happens on board such ships in port. I like this shot as it makes me realise how much we take for granted.
Interestingly enough my dh and my father worked at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard which really isn't in Portsmouth but rather in Kittery. But interesting that they are both now Naval shipyards.
