This is Mrs S's rota week for opening and closing Paimpont Abbey: as she is an early riser and I'm not, I'm happy to leave her to open in the mornings but I sometimes close in the evenings. At this time of year, darkness is falling as we close and the Abbey is but dimly lit, mainly by the votive offerings. In the tourist season and on holy days there may be dozens and dozens of candles and votive lights, but in these dog-days of Autumn there will be only a few. I like the intimate mood they create and it is nice to sit a while in the gloaming and quiet and reflect on the day.
View on black to share a little of the feeling of actually being there...
@joansmor They will burn for about 36 hours and we extinguish them at night for insurance reasons, so this little group were probably lit over a three day period.
