A Year of Days - Day 347: Grotte de ND de Paimpont
I've featured the Parish Gardens in my project many times, but I've never posted an image of why these gardens exist. This is the site where the Virgin Mary is said to have appeared to St Judicaël in 645 AD and to have asked him to build an Abbey on the banks of the lake. This has been a place of pilgrimage for hundreds of years: the land on which it stands was given to the Parish in the late 19th c. and shortly afterwards, in 1882, this shrine - modelled on that of Lourdes - was built in honour of Notre Dame de Paimpont.
The footpath around Paimpont lake passes through here and Mrs S and I always stop in front of the shrine for a few minutes. This was taken on our evening dog-walk today, just before nightfall.
