A Year of Days - Day 356: A chance meeting...

On the way home after a rather wet and miserable drive in search of an image for today's 365 album, I called at the butchers for something for dinner. As the butcher also runs my favourite bar, right next door, it would have been churlish not to have called in for a drink! I'm glad I did because 2 minutes later a friend who is also a photographer and a fellow motorcyclist too, popped in for a coffee. He was braver than me today because, despite the weather, he arrived on his bike.

He asked about my camera which was lying on the bar... what better than a practical demonstration to show what it is capable of!

Fewer distractions if viewed on black.

Question was this shot b & w in camera or converted, also how do you like the X100T compared to other Fuji, been thinking about it but still love my XE-2

great little story and photo also!

@tosee Buying the X100T was an indulgence but I keep reading such positive revues that I wanted to try one... and I may yet have a mission for it! I haven't used the X-Pro1 much, it's a bit cumbersome... but I love the XT10 which is tiny and simply excellent.

I'm currently shooting JPEG and Raw with the X100T with the camera in B&W Yellow filter mode. The SOOC images are excellent but this one was the Raw image processed in LR & Silver Efex Pro... it has more bite and a wider tonal range than the SOOC image.

You've captured so much character in his face and the context provides a perfect setting. I like the natural look.

Wonderful candid portrait! You are such a master of b&w . I recently heard someone say that color photography captures beauty, but b&w captures the soul.

@fntngrma Thank you Rosan - I've never heard that before but I can see the truth in it; I certainly prefer B&W for portraits of men which, thinking about it now, I prefer to do. I guess I find it easier to capture character than beauty. Happy Christmas to you and yours.

I guess as a photographer, it would be hard to say no if someone wanted to take your picture! Portrait shows someone one would enjoy having a coffee (or other) with.
