I have a hangover. I went out last night, but I didn't take my camera as I suggested I might in yesterday's post. It was a good night, but the pleasant weather soon made way for torrential rain, and boy was it heavy! My hair turned into a bouffant and my clothes were soaking wet. Not a good look.
I didn't have much luck with today's weather either. Yesterday I was cursing not wearing a vest as it was so humid, so today I wore one. As I left the house it was quite sunny; minutes later, the rain paid another visit. Others should be glad they do not use my choice of outfits as a barometer. Anyway, I thought I'd use the weather as an aspect of today's picture, so I took a few rain-inspired photos.
I settled on an image of the soaking grill of my car. It's not the most imaginative photo I've taken, but I like how bold and stark the four rings are, as well as the monochrome look. I also like the lineament behind and surrounding the logo.
The rings of Audi represent four German automobile companies that merged during the 1930s. They unified largely because of the financial difficulties the automotive industry - and German society as a whole - were suffering at the time.
Many historians argue that if Germany was given better financial support during this period of economic crisis (instead of being asked to pay enormous sums in reparations after the First World War), the Nazi Party would not have gained power on the promise of rebuilding Germany, would not have dissolved German democracy and, of course, have begun the Second World War. I think the Marshall Plan suggests that the lesson was indeed learnt; in fact, the plan to provide financial aid for ravaged European countries post-World War Two was such a success that the German economy is now the largest and most successful in Europe.
