Silhouette in the snow by vikdaddy

Silhouette in the snow

It snowed all day today. It was incessant and beautiful to watch, but quite treacherous outside. I went to the gym after work and took a few shots of the snowy streets, and ended up with a few photos I was pleased with.

It was a tough choice, and I couldn't decide between this and another shot I took. A couple of my others are on my Flickr page under a new set for my street photography around Nottingham ( http://www.flickr.com/photos/vikdaddy/). This was taken on the same road as the shot I took on day 194, but facing the other way. I added a texture to increase the impression of the snow in Photoshop.

I got a really lovely email today from Russia, of all places. It wasn't spam; it was from a fellow from that part of the World who had seen my blog and, at length, complimented my work. He also asked for some tips as he wants to embark on a 365 project. He took the time to send such a lovely email, so I will have to reply in kind. It made my day!

Ok, this is cool too. Think the comment I put on yesterday's photo really belongs on this one.

@wormentude Sorry about that! I really struggled to choose. In snowy conditions cameras usually try to overcompensate by using an overly warm white balance. Usually I'd 'cool' it in post-processing, but here I liked the warm tones. However, if you're actually enquiring about the look of the photo, if you use Lightroom you can download presets from the OnOne website.

Lovely photo you would have a field day up here in Scotland with the snow. Am hoping to get out and about to take some good saps of the snow.

I love this, its almost as if you photoshopped the person in hehe, great processing :-)

@taidster I know, it does look like it, but I didn't - honest! It's the overall effect I applied in Lightroom to give the image a 'paint-like' quality.

The snow and the street lights glowing are really pretty. It's funny all the vehicles are white, which really adds to the photo.

Great shot? Like the composition. Nice use of lines. Like how they lead to the guy walking in the picture.
