Today Louise and I took a ten mile trip to Colston Bassett. This village is on the outskirts of Nottinghamshire and is home to St. Mary's Church, a dilapidated building that has been roofless since the 19th century. Just before we got to the ruin we came across lots of people on horses, and it turns out that we had stumbled upon the South Notts Hunt.
We had to drive the long way around to get to the church, and we came across the Hunt again. I was just about to start shooting the church but broke away to grab a few photos of the pack ( http://www.flickr.com/photos/vikdaddy/5413683081/).
They were friendly, and many of them smiled and greeted me as they rode past. It was a pleasant surprise! And just so you know, they do apparently hunt within the law since the 2004 change in legislation.
Unfortunately some of the photos of the hunt were slightly blurry because I accidentally left my camera in my bespoke landscape settings, but I got a few decent shots. I then continued shooting the ruined church, which despite the strong winds was basking in intense sunshine.
I really struggled selecting today's photo. I've posted the set on my Flickr page, so I'd be interested in knowing if you think I chose the best one ( http://www.flickr.com/photos/vikdaddy/).
I was really pleased with today's shoot. It was nice to go somewhere I hadn't before, but doubly pleasing to also come across the horses and the Hunt. It's nice to be surprised with such an excellent photo opportunity, even if I didn't take complete advantage.

I was going to say this is a pic. Love the sunbeams. That remains the case, but it is a very different pic to No 8 and 6, which give the setting of this church and provides gorgeous colours.
Glad to hear those huntin chaps are being good boys and girls! I would love to do it within the law. They and their horses are so smart. I like the mad gallops across fields but am less enamored with the jumping
My thesis project in order to get my B.A. in history was to do with monasteries and effigies. I traveled to England to research some of the churches in London, a cathedral in Gloucester, an abbey in Tewkesbury, and also Hereford. So this picture is amazing and I love it. I'm not Christian by any means, but these things fascinate me because it deals with history and I love Medieval history quite a lot. Also, this picture is superb. Beautiful capture.
Great stuff Vik, I personally think St. Mary's Church 7 would of been my choice to post, lots blues and green and glow of sun! all very good though mate
This is amazing. The crumbling walls seem to be basking in the sunshine, obvious to further decay. They look passively defiant to further decay and happy to share their ancient stories.
Gorgeous!! Love the sun flare too. You know, when I'm shooting a ton of pics for the day it's usually hard to pick one but every once in a while, one photo sticks out like a sore thumb. I think you did a fine job of picking the perfect shot.
