Home for Smack Boys

Ramsgate was once an important fishing town and had a large fishing fleet. The smack boys, often as young as 10, worked on the fishing "smacks", or boats. This beautiful red-brick building was built in 1881 as a home for these hard-working sea-faring children.
Darn! You beat me to it! I've been meaning to post a shot of this lovely old building for a while! Nice one! :-)

I have a 10 year old and part of me wishes he did work that hard or even half that hard, but the other more tender side of my is so glad he is still just a boy.
I really like that blue door. It's a great contrasting color!

@jenirainbow Ha, ha! Sorry about that, Jeni... @houdiniem Oh yes, me too @fungirlslim Thank you Jen! @mstipe Do you wish he worked on a fishing boat, too? @kerristephens Thank you Kerri! @portereliz1958 Isn't it just? It's old and yet very well maintained @keyt427 I wondered if anyone would remark on the "smack"! @maeva I love the red brick, I must say...
