Luxor Temple

We took the train from Cairo to Luxor - a 12-hour journey in "first class".

This is the temple at the centre of Luxor. It was mainly built during the reign of Amenhotep III (the grandfather of Tutankhamen) in the 13th century BC. Parts were later "revised" by the Romans - at the back and in the inner sanctums are Latin inscriptions and Roman frescos painted over the original ancient Egyptian friezes.
