Sonia Boyce won Britain the Biennale Golden Lion award this year with her exhibition about the freedom and power of black British female vocalists.
There were other very impressive contributions, including by Malgorzata Mirga-Tas of Poland who, among other things, showed aspects of Roma culture in her large textile panels which covered all four walls of an entire pavillion! It is a staggering project in terms of both scope and size, and must have taken months to create. She was easily one of my favourite artists.
