On Day 7 we began our adventure towards home. After yummy cinnamon rolls for breakfast at our Holiday Inn Express we headed over to SR’s and Brad’s to say our goodbyes. We finally got on the road driving four hours passing Mt. Pilot (Pilot Mountain) to Mayberry (Mt. Airy).
We started at the visitor’s center to get a lay of the land then had lunch next door at Barney’s Cafe. We walked around Main Street where a lot of places were closed during the week but took a bunch of fun pics anyway in the crazy summer heat. It was so fun visiting Andy and the gang at the Andy Griffith Museum (thank goodness for AC) then drove around to find the Andy Griffith mural on the outskirts of town. Darnit if we forgot to drive passed Wally’s Filling Station though. 😩
Another hour in the car to Wytheville, Virginia to stay overnight halfway. After checking into our dumpy Hampton Inn we had a yummy Southern dinner at Log House 1776 and explored their gardens and gift shop. We drove to the nearest DQ about five miles away only to find it was in a truck stop on the side of the road so forego dessert. An end to another really fun day.
