If you visit the Cemlyn on the Isle Of Anglesey you may find the home of Beehive Preserves down one of the tiny country lanes (you may not!).
On the large old farm complex you will find a wonderful selection of hand-made preserves, jams, pickles & chutneys, made on the farm.
You will also find a vast selection of metal signs like those in my photo.
You may be wondering why I choose to include this in my holiday photos but the signs & their owner have a very interesting story to tell.
The owner's father, a native of Anglesey, was an owner of several businesses, and was commissioned to remove the metal signs on buildings up & down Anglesey etc. after the second world war, because the signs reminded people of it.
So the father tasked his sons, one being now the owner of the farm, with removing & dumping the signs at the local tip.
As young lads they found it hard work to carry the heavy signs to the tip, so they decided to 'hide' the signs in one of their dad's warehouse.
The owners two brothers became part of their father's business, while he was sent away to boarding school (as he was deemed unsuitable). After schooling he joined the Royal Navy, where he became an underwater diver & explosives expert.
37 years later, he came back to Anglesey, his parents now passed away,to be re-united with his brothers' and found that the signs were still 'hidden' in his father's warehouse untouched after all those years!!!
The brothers did a count and found there are about 5000 of them!!!!
Now stored partly at the farm & elsewhere the signs form part of an incredible true story from recent history!
@lyndamcg Thanks very much for your comments. I hope you do find it as they also do great cream teas, including homemade Bara Brith loaf amongst others. Also we bought some Apple & Mint Relish, Onion Marmalade & Plum Preserve (yet to be broken into).
