Remember The Omen? That's the 1976 original not the rubbish recent remake... Well, some of the scenes were shot here and I've always meant to grab a snap for this project. For a few more shots - please see http://andycphotos.shutterfly.com/509#509
Sorry Hayley, know Ray planned on you guys taking this but I've beaten you to it :-)...
I did actually photograph it yesterday but for one reason or another, used a different pic. So this evening on my way back to London, I stopped off. The sun was just starting to set which reflected off the brickwork and really highlighted the redness of the building.
It's a brutal beast of a building, built between 1936-1961, interrupted because of the war and sits high on a hill just off the A3. I quite like it though.
I was lucky to time my arrival with the ending of the Sunday service and a Priest (or someone in robes) asked if I wanted to grab some snaps inside.! I was told if I was here 20 minutes ealier the sun was blazing through the windows at the front making for some wonderful colours.
As for my day otherwise, me, mum and sister went for a meal then off to pick up a Royal Marine magazine for Dad at the museum in Portsmouth, off to see Dad in the afternoon, have a coffee with him and see my brother before I left for home... All in all, a busy weekend.
You're right, that really is a "beast of a building"! How wonderful that you were able to go inside for photos, and have a tour guide as well! Hope you have a bit of time for a rest before the work week begins again!
Cant believe you did this to me! Two great minds think alike. Ray told me you did it when he got home from football. Still very good photo Andy, like it.
There you are..it looks very imposing on the popular page! I used to drive past here driving up and down from Surrey to Southampton. It is a huge cathedral, quite dominating in its brickwork. I really think you've captured it well in the sunlight.
