The Thames by andycoleborn

The Thames

Weather wise, today was fairly miserable, but it did clear up as I reached home so with no photo taken, I stopped off by the Thames to grab a photo for today.

Once again, my trusty tripod - wedging the camera against a railing - was called into use and I took a few shots with varying shutter speeds.

I've read you should try not to have the horizon dead centre, but as I liked both the sky and clouds, and the flatness of the river caused by the long exposure... I thought "bugger the rules...".

Had haggis tonight for dinner - haven't had it for years and best not to think about what it's made of, but tesco's were selling it half price so I bought myself one.... wasn't too bad and did eat with tats... no neeps tho...
..lovely sweeping space, looks great.

Sod the rules! I think this photo gains by having both the sky and the water equally represented. And there's something so lonely and yet so promising about those distant city lights. A wonderful shot!

Wow, I don't know how you made the Thames look this good, but it's amazing. Also, haggis is great, just as long as you don't think about what it is :)
February 11th, 2011
Yes does seem to work - there is so much interest in both the sky and the water with the reflections.
February 11th, 2011
Beautiful, I love the clouds, and one of the first things i was told when i took up photography was, 'these are the rules, now break them'

Rules are meant to be broken as you so perfectly illustrated with this stunning picture. Sure to make the popular page! ICK Haggis even if you did have with tats (which I assume mean potatos)
February 11th, 2011
No need for rules when you take a shot as great as this. Love it. Now back to dinner...did you top it off with a dram?
February 11th, 2011
Bugger the rules indeed. It works. Lovely colours too.
February 11th, 2011
Oh totally amazing Andy! I think its time for an exhibition of your London shots.....maybe in an area at your work first, then who knows. I bet ou could sell a few if you did them big size. I'd like one! Talking of Haggis, we often have the tesco one, Halls I think. Lovely with chips, swede and worcester sauce!! LOL

Beautiful shot. Love these long exposures and the silky results they bring. Also like the coolness you have with the blue along with the warm tones splitting the frame with the horizon.
