The Big Smoke by andycoleborn

The Big Smoke

I was contacted in work yesterday to see if I would allow some students up to the roof of one of our tower blocks to take some shots of London.. Of course, I was happy to agree as it would also give me a chance to get some shots..

This is better viewed large where you'll be able to see the London Eye, St Pauls etc a bit better..

Turns out they've got an interesting sounding project.

They are students of the London College of Communication and their project consisted of setting up camera's facing North, South, East and West and taking a shot every 10 seconds for over 2 hours..

The shots will then be turned into a stop-motion movie projected onto the internal walls of a completely square room. Apparently each wall will be taken up by the image and the viewer is expected to stand in the dead centre of the gallery to 'feel the experience'...

Think I'll pop along to see when it's complete..

They were actually a decent bunch (for students...lol)... and also had an wide and varied range of camera equipment... I'll be uploading other pics over the next few days to my 3rd album.
sounds a very cool project - let us know when it is - i might pop down to see it too! Great shot - love high views of London - also great proof of the theory "there's never a bus when you want one, then 2 appear at the same time"....

I was last in London in 2008, and I thought it was so beautiful. It's really neat to see a bird's-eye view like this, because it's so unusual. Just curious, did you try any shots with a wider angle? Good job on this shot!

What a great opportunity for them and you! Fantastic shot Andy. So much to look at and reminds me why I love London. Why have the buses got white roofs now I wonder? Sounds like a great idea for a project and would love to see the results. Keep us posted.

Wow... very cool London scape and project.

You will have to come take a picture from one of our tower blocks one day. It will sure be way different from this. The tallest building is five stories ... an old factory, all in Bath stone... a few buildings and then lots of hills and fields.
