Nothing beats the sound of leather on willow during an English Summer.
Me and Sangeeta went down to Hampshire to take my parents out for the day, a drive through the countryside, bite to eat, stop off to watch a bit of cricket then onto a quaint little tea shop then down to the beach before driving back to London in the evening..
A very long day, but highly enjoyable..
This pic was taken at Hambledon Cricket Club - Hambledon is widely accepted as the oldest cricket club in the World and was formed in 1750 (maybe a bit before but records are a bit scratchy)..
One question.. If Hambledon CC were the first.. Who'd they play??
@seattle haha - he's one of the umpires - not sure what the trouble with his leg is, but as short-leg, middle and leg, leg before wicket etc are all standard cricket terms, having a dodgy leg must be part of th egame haha... @andifree so you don't know your googly from your silly-mid-off then LOL?? Ask Richard :-)
ha ha well spotted Constance , you pinched my words @seattle .It's the square leg umpire Constance ....How's that you may ask ...or Howzat !!! Far too complicated
@phil_howcroft haha.. agree, there's no point starting to try and explain cricket and all it's nuances.. when you start, they just sound down right odd....
Ok boys...step aside....Hambledon was originally a parish cricket team who came to prominence when playing matches against Dartford....impressed? It's all in wikipedia!! LOL @andycoleborn@phil_howcroft@rich57@jpgiorgio Whatever.....cricket is the best sport ever!! (she said, to at least 2 known football supporters!!) Oh and btw...fab action shot andy!!
@andycoleborn ah well...that's a completely different discussion!! LOL But seriously, that Hambledon ground is a gorgeous place isn't it? Does Sangeeta understand cricket?
@Cherrill haha, being Indian how can she not.... :-) She's watched many games at Eden Gardens apparently... But yeah, it's a lovely setting, just over the brow was fields of poppies..
@Cherrill haha.. and there was always plenty going on.. I can asure you :-) @shantwin Au contraire Ms P... Those peskie Canadians play it... even make to this year's World Cup.. tho they then went and lost every game I believe...
I stand corrected! I'm sure there are people playing it here in the States too, I just never see them. We have a very high imigrant population from Asia here, not so much from Europe or India which may account for our lack of wickets.
@andifree so you don't know your googly from your silly-mid-off then LOL?? Ask Richard :-)
Great capture Andy
