When I got back to my car after a foray around the streets of salisbury This lady, Jill, was just sitting down on the wall. I made conversation and she told me that her husband and herself had walked into town from home, about 2 miles, but hadn't considered the weight of the shopping that they would then have to carry home. So her husband had gone home to get the car while she waited. I explained that I enjoyed street photography (normally candid) and would she mind if I took her photograph. I smiled inside as she flicked her hair and said "if you want to". I know there are photographers who do street portraits asking permission first, and I must admit that it does appeal to me and I might try and pluck up the courage and give it a go but I don't think the results will be a pleasing as candid.
I have almost been that lady as when we were sailing we had no transportation and always had to walk and carry what we bought so I do understand her! And I think you are right - something more candid might have been a bit better. Maybe if her head was drooping with exhaustion.... But it is a really delightful picture!!
