Mail Rail

The newly opened Mail Rail attraction - part of the Postal Museum at Mount Pleasant. Had bought tickets for this back in July on the first day they went on sale.

Lovely day today after all the rain we've had - unlike all those poor people in the Caribbean and Florida suffering through Hurricane Irma with Jose not far behind.

Up early for the first Pilates session in a while. Some toughish bits but all in all not bad. Got back to find Dave hunting for his suit among all the boxes and bags of stuff packed away. Found it eventually - and I took the chance to decide what I'm going to wear next weekend too.

Brunch of halloumi, egg, tomatoes and charred beans was pleasant outside in the garden - watching the rather large garden spiders doing their September thing.

Arrived at the Mail Rail just after 2 for a very interesting afternoon. A 20 minute ride on the train with commentary and presentations - then a look round the gallery dedicated to the mail rail. very interesting and well done.

Across the road is the Postal Museum proper - also very interesting - a good balance of relatively engaging and informative at the same time. Lots of hands-on stuff too and not too busy with kids hogging all the activities. Loved playing with the old pay phoneboxes - really took me back in time.

Afterwards we were umming and aahing about whether to find somewhere out to eat or to go back and have fish and chips. We were on the verge of going home especially as at 5 most restaurants wouldn't be open yet, when I spotted a Belgo and that was that - Dave was up for a bowl of mussels.

Quite quiet at that time so we had the place more or less to ourselves. Dave of course had the mussels and I had the Waterzooi fish soup - basically fish, prawns and mussels in a rich creamy sauce. Also was happy hour so had a couple of cocktails while Dave drank his strong dark beer.

Walked back to King's Cross well stuffed and spent the evening watching a bit of Black Books then I watched the rest of the Absolutely Fabulous movie I'd missed as I'd fallen asleep when we first watched it.
