The Nest

The magical light installation The Nest by Marshmallow Laser Feast - stunning. At the last night of the Welcome to the Forest opening event of Waltham Forest's year as London Borough of Culture.

A lie-in then it was another morning rush to get ready for my mum arriving for her birthday brunch. Dave wrapped her presents and I cycled to the market for some halloumi and cake. Bizarrely the one time I needed them, the patissier wit the nice fruit tarts wasn't there. So went and got cream cakes from Percy Ingle instead - not as upmarket, but bloody nice.

Got back and tidied a bit before mum arrived. Then Dave rustled up a big halloumi brunch. Mum opened her presents, liking her cardigan, drank Bailey's and prosecco, and ate far too much cream cake and cheese. She hadn't got my birthday card though which I'd posted the day before her actual birthday. What a shame, it was a really nice one.

We drove mum back then I came back and did some more reading before we walked to Welcome to the Forest - me as a punter instead of a volunteer. The queue for the Nest, but wasn't too bad and they let us in early - so that was good. Totally amazing, we watched it 3 times, once lying on our backs on the muddy park grass. Quite magical, a lovely soundtrack by Erland Cooper with, I'm sure, some references to Close Encounters.

Dave headed off after tht as he'd seen the town hall installation. Loads of interesting stuff on the road between the park and the town hall - a steam punk horse, fires pits on the street and even a gang of Hare Krishnas as we've always called them.

Stopped at the Shed disco space to catch a bhangra macarena before making my way to the town hall, where I watched the audio visual show twice. Very clever and quite affecting.

Walked back slowly, bumping into Jane S and Rhian and got back just in time for the last of the soup and Les Miserables.
