Farandi by boxplayer

A Nordic treat this evening at the Finnish Church - members hailing from the various Nordic countries of Denmark, Finland and Sweden as well as a guy from the UK.

Forecast to be extremely hot today, so packed light with a hat and suncream as I planned on walking a bit later.

Breakfast in the garden - the baby swifts very lively. Walked through the parks into work - enjoying watching the pigeons bathing in the fountain again.

Our choir was doing a workshop at work for wellbeing week so got involved heading to lunchtime Pilates. The afternoon then disappeared with a lot of meetings and I left early just after 4.30.

I walked nearly 5 miles along the river to the Finnish Church in Rotherhithe. Very hot it was and I felt exhausted almost from the start especially as it was heaving with tourists bimbling about on the South Bank.

Luckily I'd brought water and I made good time so slowed down. Took about 1.5 hours to walk. A few people were there that I knew, Kathryn from Nottingham, now in London for a bit, David from On Bouge, Ed, Emily, and then lots of other vaguely hip young people.

Treated myself to a Karelian pasty even though I'd brought myself a pitta pocket, but managed to resist the cinnamon buns. Bit of a delay getting into the hall as the soundchecking continued.
Two members of the chamber-folk group Arlet supported. Ambient mood music mainly, and I started to doze. Got a break outside during the interval before coming back in for Farandi. All very good: 2 nyckelharpas (there are usually 3 apparently), a bagpiper, plus flute and accordion. Lively mainly self-composed tunes in the Scandi idiom.

Decided not to go to the session in a nearby pub - was exhausted, so came home to a second dinner of melon along with peas from Dave's work vegetable plot, and some chocolate and cheese. Found out niece M was coming for the weekend - so wouldn't need to post her birthday present.
