Bluebells in Wanstead Park by boxplayer

Bluebells in Wanstead Park

A stunning display. This little bit of Wanstead Park, Chalet Wood, is known for its bluebell carpet at this time of year. The smell was wonderful.

A muesli breakfast then I cycled to Wanstead Park and to see if I could find the amazing bluebells. The roads are still quite quiet and I cycled the way I used to cycle to court. Then along Wanstead High Street and beyond to what is a bit of Epping Forest - quite wooded with broad tracks and some open bits, and a view of lakes in the distance.

Thought I'd cycle down a little bit of the broad track just inside the gate and almost immediately saw a distinctive blue through the trees and found the bluebell glade. A one-way system directed walkers around it. There were a few others admiring the scene, but not many.

Came home to a mozzarella pasta lunch with cherry tomatoes outside and I managed to get my melodeon out and we played the Blackthorn Stick together - ever so slowly.

Dave did a bit of shed organising
and we had our fence drinks with whisky and the neighbours before heading in for our Aperoskype with Anna, Lara and Peter. Got very cross as initially the app wouldn't work - no matter what I did, it wouldn't let me join the chat.

But then suddenly for no reason it started working. We almost opened the big prosecco bottle we've had for ages, but decided that might be a bit of bubbly too far and decided to go with wine and some nibbles. To be aware, nibbles over a video conference are really not a good idea - somehow you look terrible.

Was really nice to see our old friends in person, once we'd got over the technical hitches, and have a bit of a catch-up. Baked potatoes with cheese and tuna for supper with an episode of Goodness Gracious Me.
