This old Singer is so dear to me because I stood behind it as a little girl and watched my mother sew many of my clothes. I also made many of my daughter's dresses when she was little. It still sews like a dream.
This looks like the sewing machine I first remember my mother having when I was small. She had others later...... She also made some of her own clothes as well as most of mine until I was ready for high school, at least. Much later she sewed for both our children, a girl and a boy. (Clothes as well as several Halloween costumes also several clown outfits for our daughter who did clowning.) Unfortunately, I didn't inherit her enjoyment of sewing. I did make some dresses for my daughter when she was growing up and did some quilting later. Still have my portable sewing machine, but it hasn't been out of its box for several years.
They are not made as good any longer. You have a treasure. You keep it nice and shining.... or is it that you dusted it, like you said about the copper pot? LOL
@mothermalarky@aglennc@susanalena@shirleyv@cynshep@anazad511@lesip Oh, I'm so glad to hear stories of your old machines! I have a newer machine, but it's mostly plastic, so if I'm sewing something heavy, I drag out this old one because, like you say, they just don't make them like they used to!! Oh, and AnaZad, I had to get the dust rag out for this one, too! hehe!!
Does remind me of my grandmother's (now that would put it at least 75 years old - probably older - do wish I had it) but the sewing bug skipped a generation with my mother. I have a Singer, and it's probably close to 50 years old, and used it today. This is a lovely one.
This is such a great shot of a beautiful object. It's always nice to see that old things get loved and taken care of, and even better - to have their portrait taken. I like a lot the dark wood, paired up with the darkness of the color.
Wish they still built things that way.
