L-R Jupiter, Venus and Mercury with the red planet (Mars) lurking below
We woke up at ~5am today to see this rare event - four planets very close together in the pre-dawn eastern sky.
I promised facebook peeps that I would take an out-of-focus, hazy, poorly composed picture for posterity's sake (ie those who couldn't be bothered getting out of bed early) and here it is ;)
In reality, it was far more magnificent with Venus glowing like a spot light and Jupiter and Mercury putting in very bright performances as well.
In short, it was worth getting up early on a cold morning :)
Great capture Amanda. I've been reading so much about this lately (and seen some nice pictures) over at http://spaceweather.com/ - good to see some of us 365'ers having a go too.
@aikiuser@aa@nodecaff ... if I didn't have to stand half-way up a (sleeping) neighbour's driveway to see it, I'd try it with the tripod tomorrow. Alas something tells me that seeing a woman in flannel PJs, Uggs and purple dressing gown taking photos of the sky from your driveway at 5:30am maaaaay just be cause for alarm.
Thanks for doing all that for us! And maybe no one will be up to see you in your purple gown tomorrow morning. If they are, you could show them some astronomical history.
;-)
@nodecaff @caroline11820 @aikiuser LOL
@peacerebel @lorihiro thanks
