No Foundation by epcello

No Foundation

This week I've decided not to wear any foundation and extra makeup on my skin. It's a psychological experiment on myself. It bothers me that we women feel unattractive if we don't cover our flaws to emulate the perfect skin we see in magazines and movies. I wanted to see how I would feel out in the world with all of my redness and blotchiness showing, and if my skin might become healthier if I went a week without all that junk on my face. Right now, I'm having trouble adjusting. Hence the desire to cover my face.
Good luck this week!!

I love your eyes, they are so pretty. As a woman who barely ever wears makeup, I'm thinking perhaps you'll find it easier as time goes by :) Good luck with it.

@kiwichick Thank you, Lesley. And you are most beautiful without it. I hope you are right about it getting easier. I do think I definitely need a break.

@photographycrazy Thanks!

I got distracted one Saturday morning recently, hurried out to run all my errands, and when I got home I realized I hadn't put on any makeup! No one seemed to notice, though I was a bit freaked out. A very cool idea you have and great capture!

good on you - your skin will love you. All the pics in the mags are photoshopped anyway to look perfect!!! You look pretty good to me!

The skin that I do see on your face looks great :). It's good to give your skin a break. I use Bare Escentuals powder foundation which has no fragrance and no toxic chemicals and a % of natural sunscreen.

@seattlite I should look into that, Gloria. Thanks!
@debilz Debbie, I have that internal battle with photoshop. Why are we working so hard to take away everyone's flaws?
@linnypinny Thank you, Lin!

Wonderful photo! No need to hide - but I know so well how much we rely on that make up... So have a fabulous week, I hope you love it!

as a disclaimer i have never used makeup since i was a teen, so I dont have the same problem as you, but i will say it seems to me we wear it for other people, we cant see it, and to be honest when I see people with it on it looks so fake, it is never flawless so it bothers me more than the bare skin would. people would never say this to your face of course! you are brave to face this, be comfortable in your own skin :)

A truly powerful photo, really, Erika. The hands show what a predicament women are in in today's world.

Just keep reminding yourself that you are a beautiful woman--anyone who's seen pictures of you knows that. I am not, but I gave up wearing makeup years ago and have always been glad I don't bother with that stuff--it's a liberating feeling!

Thoughtful, how was your make-up free week?
March 26th, 2016
@overalvandaan It was difficult! I learned a lot about myself and my attachment to makeup, though. I think I will be wearing it less.

No problem.

Who needs foundation when you have such beautiful eyes. I often don't wear any makeup. A powerful shot!
