Heading back downstate

They listened to the Beatles on the way home. Both the Rubber Soul and Abbey Road albums.

"Michelle" came on. It reminded her of when she was a kid.

"Michelle, ma belle
Sont des mots qui vont tres bien ensemble
Tres bien ensemble..."

On Sundays, her parents used to break out the vinyl and play old Beatles albums while they cleaned up the house.

Today was Sunday. As they drove back home, he sang along with the music.

She loved that he was a musician. She loved hearing him talk about and teach her about music, notes, rhythms, chord progressions...

Every other song or so, he tested her.

"Who's singing this one? Lennon or McCartney?" he asked.

She got it right each time. She was quite pleased with herself.

"You think if we are lucky to have a kid, they'd be musical...or artistic, at least?"

He said yes but insisted that any musical talent would come from his end of the gene pool. He was probably right.

But then he said, "You can carry a melody though. Better than most people without any music training."

She knew he was highly critical, especially when it came to music, so this was nice. And she bet he was being sincere.

The scenery whizzed past them as the car sped down the highway.

She put her bare feet up on the dash, tapping them to the beat. She hummed the melody. He sang harmony... All the way home.

(Not in the BMW anymore. Back to reality, back in our 20-year old Saab. Pic taken on the way home. Lately, I've been cheating myself of good photo ops by not bringing my DSLR around. Gotta change that. And soon. Happy Sunday, my friends!)
Great story ;) I love the processing on this pic.
The Beatles remind me of working at the candy store...that and cheesy 80's music. Lol Right @snaphappy1?

Interesting capture and another of your deep and meaningful monologues. Sadly I don't have your knowledge of those songs and sadly much of it escapes me.

Ahhhhh, finally!! a song, a band, a movement that I 100% am in tune with (pun intended). I must admit I had been a bit frustrated with many of your song/music associations. I just don't have the breadth and variety of appreciation and knowledge that you do. I am at a disadvantage not having bought a new album since 1990. But now I feel right at home when you talk Beatles. I could have been any one of the fab four in Beatlemania, if I say so myself :) Welcome back downstate. Don't you have a birthday coming up soon?

@islandk8 thanks, Kate!

@adamj Glad you can appreciate my music references here. I haven't really bought too many albums since the 90s either. Listening to these two particular albums today was a nice change of pace. And yes I have a birthday coming up soon :).

@fauxtography365 I guess we never discussed music very much. Perhaps an opportunity will present itself? Anywho, very cool. Nice to hear from you today. Have a nice night. Happy Birthday in advance!

You ever thought about becoming a writer ? Cool shot btw
August 19th, 2013
@quickshots thanks! @streats I have thought about it - majored in journalism and took a few creative writing classes in college... but...very hard to make a decent living as a writer. I like it as a hobby though. Thanks for checking out the pic! :)
