'The year is 1803, Darcy and Elizabeth have been married for six years, and the orderly world of Pemberley seems unassailable. But all this is threatened when, on the eve of the annual ball, a chaise appears, rocking down the path from Pemberley's wild woodland. As it pulls up, Lydia Wickham - Elizabeth's younger, unreliable sister - stumbles out screaming that her husband has been murdered'
So begins the review of 'Death Comes to Pemberley' written quite recently by PD James, as a follow-up to 'Pride and Prejudice' by Jane Austen.
Now the film crews have come to York to turn the new book into a three part TV drama to be broadcast in the UK around Christmas time - and who could resist the chance to get a few shots of the filming process!
Today was mainly setting up the scenes around St Williams College, but I did also catch shots of some of the actors in costume in Goodramgate, and one young actress near Holy Trinity Church on her mobile phone.
That is a show to look forward to .maybe sometimes next year and when it comes on I will remember your scenes here, Ian. thanks for the wonderful pictures and story.
Thank you Lee - there's a certain amount of luck in being in the right place at the right time. I was very fortunate to spot the actors / actresses wandering through the streets!
Thank you Molly - Lucy and I had a great time looking at this. I always find it amazing how a place is transformed for film. We've seen previous filming in York and in the Isle of Man, and it's a fascinating process.
Hi Ian, I wondered where you had disappeared to after March but now you ae back in quadruplet. Brilliant idea to involve all the family. Maybe my husband would stop commentin the I'm always on the computer if I involved him! I love this collage but even more I love the news that Jan Austen aka P.D.James (!) has come to York, my home town. FAV and follwing your family now.
Thank you Lizzy for your very generous comment. It's fascinating to watch a place transformed to make a film, and I was lucky to catch this. The actual filming was done the day after these shots were taken, but unfortunately we were in Durham and missed that.
Thank you Julie for the fav and follow!. Lucy and I both completed solo projects. Neither of us wanted the continued pressure of daily posting, nor did we want to give up. so the family idea was born. Filming has now finished in York and the crews have moved on to Beverley. They were at Castle Howard before they came to York. It should be lots of fun playing spot the location when this appears on BBC1 around Christmas!
Thank you Cathrine - I'm hoping for more shots as they continue filming over the next few days!
Ian
Thank you Ferry - I'm looking forward to seeing the finished film now!

Thank you Therese - I'm looking forward to seeing the final film, but I might find myself location spotting rather than following the plot!

Thank you Janet, it is fascinating to see how places are transformed for filming. We missed the actual filming on Tuesday, because we were all away in Durham, but there were a few shots in our local newspaper - http://www.yorkpress.co.uk/news/10582202.York_piling_on_the_period_atmosphere_as_city_steps_back_in_time_for_BBC_drama/
