Another shot from the visit that Louise and I paid to Wendover on Sunday, and by the time I took it, the rain was falling. As we headed for the shelter of Louise's car, I spotted this attractive Georgian (1714 to 1830) style building.
However, not all is as it first seams - if you look at the right side of the building, the wall contains a timber frame, so the Georgian frontage is a later addition to an earlier timber framed building.
This was one of several buildings in the centre of Wendover that have had this transformation, suggesting considerable wealth here in the Georgian period.
I know nothing of the history of Wendover, but I'm looking forward to having time to learn more once I return home to York.
I for one like the greenery on buildings. my husband always says it'll eat away on the bricks. so if one doesn't noticed the side on the right of it, it could get away with a Georgian style building.
Thank you Bruni - the greenery does add to the attractiveness of the building. Hopefully more shots of Wendover on a future visit, if the weather is kinder!
