I've been promising myself a trip to Leeds for quite a while, and I finally got there a few days ago. Leeds is a fascinating place - a major shopping and financial centre, and a place with some fascinating heritage.
Part of my time was spent along the banks of the River Aire, an area which has undergone massive regeneration in recent years. Here at Leeds Lock are numerous old warehouses and mills, most of which have been renovated and converted to apartments or offices, while the lock in the foreground reminds us of the importance of the River Aire as a transport corridor in earlier years.
Haven't been to Leeds for some years - my maternal grandmother grew up there, so it's interesting to visit. I like this composition, with the reflections in the lock.
Great capture of Leeds. Nice view and lovely docks.
In many countries there has been chance a lot. The house I`m born is now chance into (or covered by) a 8 stroke highway.
Thank you Debbie - the whole area has been amazingly transformed. Behind where I was stood is a massive Royal Armouries museum - quite a draw for the tourists!
Thank you Molly, it was a great day for reflection photos, and I took several such shots. This was my favourite though, with both riverside buildings and the lock.
Thank you Therese - Leeds used to be a wonderful place for Christmas lights, and we used to take Louise and Lucy to see them when they were children. Its a very busy vibrant city.
Thank you Bob - this lock is quite unusual. The weir beside it was built several hundred years ago to provide water power for the riverside mills. The lock came later as river transport was developed along what is known as the Aire and Calder Navigation. All the locks along this navigation, except this one, have been updated and now operate electrically, but this one is still manual.
Thank you Tony - the history here is largely what I discovered while I was there. The tourist information centre had an excellent new leaflet with a history trail along the riverside, and that was the source.

Thank you Padlock - the riverside apartments are a really popular place to live, which is quite a contrast to how it used to be!

Thank you Ferry - one of the nice things in Leeds is that some of the best of the old buildings have been kept and restored.
